Apostille in Mexico
Apostille of Mexican public documents for use in the countries that belong to the Hague Apostille Convention.
An apostille certifies the origin of a public document (the signature, seal and position of the official who issued it) so it is recognized in another country that belongs to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention. Mexico is a member, so Mexican documents only need an apostille, not consular legalization, to be used in those countries.
The competent authority depends on who issued the document: federal documents, such as degrees registered with the SEP or certificates from federal agencies, are apostilled by the Secretaría de Gobernación, while state documents, such as civil registry certificates (actas), are apostilled by the government of the state that issued them. We identify the right office, file the request and return the apostilled document to you.
We also combine the apostille with a certified translation, in the order the destination country requires.

Frequently asked questions
Which comes first, the apostille or the translation?
It depends on the destination. Usually the document is apostilled first and then translated together with the apostille, but some countries require the translation itself to be apostilled. We confirm the order before we start.
Can a foreign document be apostilled in Mexico?
No. A document can only be apostilled in the country that issued it. We help coordinate that through our international network and then translate it for use in Mexico.
Does an apostille expire?
The apostille itself does not expire, but the receiving authority may require the underlying document, such as a birth certificate or criminal record, to be recently issued.
